Trail Etiquette
A. Responsibilities
to those in your group:
1. Know how many are
in the group.
2. Each rider in the
group should check on the rider behind them. Check the rider at every fork or turn at
a MINIMUM. If you haven’t
seen them for a few minutes, you should wait to see if they catch up. If not, let the ones in front of you
know.
3. Make sure the
rider behind you makes it over tough spots before you continue. He/She might need your help.
4. Don’t
follow the rider ahead of you too closely.
5. Use hand signals
to let the rider behind know you are stopping or slowing. If the rider ahead holds up a hand you
should be ready to stop quickly.
6. Turn on your
lights. It makes you much easier to
see.
B.
Responsible to those not in your
group:
1. Don’t block
ramps, trailheads, restroom facilities, or other access points with your ATV.
2. When passing
groups going the other way, holding up the number of fingers to indicate how
many riders are following you can reduce the risk of head-on collisions
3. If a faster ATV
is coming up behind you, at the most convenient and safest place, please pull
over to the side and wave the rider to pass you.
4. If you overtake a slower ATV, never pass unless the person
in front of you either pulls over or waves you around. You never know when the rider in front
may have to swerve in either direction to avoid an obstacle.
5. If you brought it, take it out with you. Don’t leave it on the trail.
